Aces Pizza & Liquor

I was invited to the launch of the revamped Aces Pizza & Liquor bar that has been a long standing bar inside the Central Markets. I can recall many times walking past it to go into the Markets and smelling that delicious scent of the pizza cooking, but had never actually had the chance to pop in and see what was happening. With Aces revamp comes a new interior with plenty of booth seating, tables and space, brand new flooring and a new pizza oven; the new restaurant and bar is sure to catch your attention. Walls stacked with wine, along with plenty of local craft beer and so much more, you’ll be sure to find the perfect drink pairing to go along with your meal.
With a new refreshed menu, keeping some classics of course, this new menu has been brought in by incredibly talented, Duncan Welgemoed best known in Adelaide for his amazing menu and restaurant Africola. The menu having some incredible catchy names for their dishes such as pizza’s called, ‘Legalize Marinara, Apocalypse Cow, Tropic Thunder, Napoli Dynamite and so much more, if the menu based off the names of the dishes doesn’t get you excited then maybe the next part of this blog will. (Where I start aggressively telling you to go) Throughout the night we were treated to some of the dishes off the new menu, starting with the a classic Salumi antipasto plate, followed by a plate of Mozzarella sticks with their specialty ‘Sunday Sauce’ which I believe is their take on the classic Marinara sauce, and I can tell you that I was literally scooping the sauce off my plate with my finger. If it was acceptable to lick the plate clean, I would have.
Next we were treated to some pizza. We were given the classic Margherita and the Dr Pepperoni. Both pizzas with a base of their Sunday Sauce were packed with flavour and the bases cooked to perfection. I don’t usually go for a pepperoni pizza as my first pick but I would order this one again. The crispy crust was perfect and everything you want in a pizza, with the perfect amount of toppings they are both sure to be crowd pleasers.
Next up; for me, are the stars of the night. The two pasta dishes, ‘Capellini Golden Century’ – Which was prawns in a ‘Golden Century’ garlic butter sauce, with parmesan and parsley & ‘Mario Carbone’s Spicy Rigatoni’ which was Sunday Sauce ‘A la Vodka’, pecorino & Calabrian Chilli. Alright you’re probably thinking, Andrea, they’re just two cool pasta dishes, what more could you possibly say about them? WELL YEAH, they are two absolutely, flavour packed dishes, with pasta cooked to perfection that make you sit there and feel sad once the bowl of pasta is empty. Much like my dilemma with the Sunday Sauce for the Mozzarella sticks at the start, the left over sauce in the bowl from the Spicy Rigatoni did not last long, and with me mopping up the left over that I couldn’t get with my spoon with my incredibly useful finger.
I would highly recommend checking out the new Aces bar and ordering one of everything off of the menu. But if you can’t order one of everything then I would be tossing up between the 4 dishes above. (I know there is like so many more but these are just the ones I tasted and I can honestly say that they blew my mind) I can’t wait to visit again and bathe in the Sunday Sauce.
