I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of the new Real Falafel store inside the Adelaide Central Markets. Previously Real Falafel was located in the Central Market Arcade and has now moved into a glorious new shop space, 3 / 4 Adelaide Central Market. If you don’t know the story about owner Mitch, it is a heart-warming and motivating story that will make you love him and his food even more. Mitch was born in Saudi Arabia but a few years ago he moved to Australia to seek freedom and the ability to be open and accepted about his sexuality and be who he wanted to be. Mitch met his now business partner Matt, when he was learning to become a barista, and his love and passion for making traditional and delicious Falafel’s eventuated into opening his own store.
Mitch wanted to ensure that the Falafel’s being served were authentic, flavourful and full of colour. His motto is ‘Peace and love through food’ and if you have ever tried anything from Real Falafel, you will see the passion, love and flavour that has been incorporated into it. With his new space Mitch has also added a few new menu items (of course keeping those original, delicious and amazing dishes that you know and love). New items include the Baked Shakshuka & Messy Shakshuka, (Which if you have been following me for long enough you know, YOU KNOW I love anything Shakshuka / baked egg style and I AM PUMPED TO TRY THIS) The Arabian Smoothie Bowl & the Sabich.
Still keeping their menu with Falafel Pita, bowls and their sides; including their HALLOUMI FRIES! (Look if you don’t like halloumi I’m not sure that we can be friends) I was lucky enough to try these halloumi fries a few months ago, when I got the invitation to go back to see the new store my eyes literally lit up; all my dreams of halloumi fries had come true and I was going to eat those sweet sweet babies again.
A few things to mention about this shop, minus the fact that owner Mitch is a complete angel, with a heart of gold; the food that he produces is some of the best, realest and most flavourful you can get. Mitch’s hummus which is made by him is easily some of the best I have ever had. The flavours that he gets into the hummus blows my mind, and truly if it was something I could spoon feed myself daily I would. Another dish that I can’t seem to move from my mind, was an eggplant dish we were lucky to try last night – now I’m not 100% sure If this one is on the menu but I think it might have been a similar dish to the Sabich which he has added to his menu (There was just a few differences so don’t hold me to it being that dish)
If you never had the chance to visit his store previously, you need to go and check the new and improved store; the menu is all vegetarian and most of it being vegan, but for you meat eaters who are scared of vegan food, don’t let this bother you; believe me, it’s worth it. A huge thank you to Mitch, Matt & Rhi for letting us be apart of his launch night and to celebrate and share the amazing food that we got to enjoy.
