I was delighted to be invited to try the new vegan dinner menu at The Deli in Norwood, which will be launching this week and will be available via bookings on Saturday nights. This gorgeous family run cafe is an absolute delight to visit, not only is the food fantastic, but the staff are so accommodating and you can truly see how much love is being put into these dishes. Their head chef Jordan showed us how full of flavour your vegan dishes can be and just how creative you can get, leaving you feeling full and satisfied.
We started off the night with the Pea and Broadbean salad, which included roasted hazelnuts, fresh herbs, and an almond feta. Personally, I’ve never been the biggest fan of peas, but this dish had so many flavours, paired with the broad beans and the almond feta I couldn’t stop shovelling these peas into my mouth. But I know... I KNOW, if I go home and cook myself peas I will probably hate them again. Sad. Next up was the Beetroot Tartare with Horseradish cashew cream & seasoned rye toast. The horseradish cream slathered on the perfectly crispy bread and absolutely drowned in beetroot (because I love beetroot) was like a little party in my mouth. The flavours were so perfectly combined, you could tell how much thought was put into these dishes.
For main we were treated with a Whole roasted cauliflower, with Romesco sauce, herbed pearl barley, preserved lemon & green olive. The Romesco sauce, (which I googled because I am clearly very smart at this, is typically made from any mixture of roasted tomatoes and garlic, toasted almonds, pine nuts, and/or hazelnuts, olive or sunflower oil, and nyora peppers) this sauce was SO FRIGGEN GOOD. I was just scooping it up with my spoon so I could eat it all and it was just the most perfect sauce to have accompanied with the cauliflower. Another perfect dish. And to finish, oh my. I can’t stop thinking about the Jaffa Mousse. STILL COMPLETELY VEGAN BY THE WAY. My brain was literally blown when I took a spoonful of this incredibly creamy, chocolate beautiful mousse. It tasted exactly how a dairy mousse would. Actually no that’s a lie, it was better than a standard dairy mousse. So smooth and creamy, and completely ethical. I can’t speak more highly of this place. The staff, the food, and the cafe. Pure perfection. Even if you eat meat, it is worth a visit. You will not be disappointed. I promise you.
Thank you so much to the whole team at The Lost Deli, and to Natalie from Mercy Me Marketing. It was truly an incredible night filled with amazing food - and I can't wait to go back! Andrea x
